What is kinetic and potential energy ?

Kinetic energy

The type of energy due to motion of the body is called kinetic energy.

KE = 1/2 mv²

Potential energy

 The type of energy which is due to psition of the body is called potential energy.

Stored energy or compressed spring is also called the potential energy.
